Instructions
(Non-VT Connections: 6 steps in all)

1. Download the file

mdmcbx.inf: Needed for all direct connections. There are different revisions listed on the files page. If Windows 95 will not install this file, you will probably want to try an earlier revision.  This has been known to happen especially with non-US versions of Windows 95.

When you click on the link, the file will be displayed in the browser. Click on File and then "Save as." Remember where you save the file to - you will need it later on.

2. Get Control

Now go into the control panel (under "Settings" in the start menu) and double click on the "modems" icon. Click on "Add..."

3. Choose the File

Check the box that says "don't detect my modem I'll select it from a list" When the list of modems comes up, click on the "Have disk..." button located in the lower right of the dialog box. Click on "browse" and now select the file that you downloaded in step 1. Click on OK when you've found it to indicate that it is the file you want to use.

4. Choose the modem

The next dialog box that comes up should have a modem called "Direct Connection." Make sure that it is highlited (click once on "direct on-campus connection") and click on the "Next>" button.

5. Choose your communications port

You now have to tell windows what port in the back of your computer the phone is hooked up to. You may have to look in the back of your computer - it helps here if your ports are labeled. If they're not, please consult your computer manuals to see which port is which in the back of your computer. As a last resort, you can do it by my favorite method: trial and error (Instructions? We don't need no steekin instructions!). When you know which one to choose, single click on the option and click "next>"

6. There it is!

Click the "finished" button to acknowledge that you have finished. A modem called "direct connection" should now show up in the modems box.

Now visit Windows95.com. It will guide you through the rest of the setup! Note: When Windows 95 prompts you for a phone number, it does not matter what you enter. The driver does not use it. Put in whatever you like!
