Shuttle Launch STS-98
2/7/2001: My first ever shuttle launch. I watched the lift-off from a few miles away across the Indian River.

NASA Liftoff 1 NASA's version of the lift-off. My photos are better :) 2/7/2001 6:13:00 PM
NASA Liftoff 2 Another one of NASA's versions of the lift-off. 2/7/2001 6:13:00 PM

VAB The big building over my left shoulder is the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) where they do the prep work on the shuttle and boosters. It's a mammoth building up close. The launch pad is on my right. You can't really see it, but it is right on top of the little strip of green on the horizon. I could see it with a good pair of binoculars. 2/7/2001 5:00:00 PM
dock This is a dock that was just to our right. From here, the owner can shoot straight out to the Ocean at a moment's notice. 2/7/2001 4:24:00 PM
Moon The moon is off to the north just past the roof-top of the houses, but it didn't really scan well. 2/7/2001 5:55:00 PM
Moon higher The moon continues to rise and grow brighter. 2/7/2001 6:03:00 PM
Liftoff Last These photos don't do it justice, but the sunset in the west reflected off the smoke column. It was beatiful. 2/7/2001 6:14:00 PM
Liftoff 3 The shuttle rose much faster than I expected. 2/7/2001 6:13:00 PM
Liftoff 2 A second or two later, I'll feel the rumble and mild heat wave. 2/7/2001 6:13:00 PM
Ducks There were a few folks who had a closer view... the ducks. 2/7/2001 4:24:00 PM
